For those who used Windows Shadow Copy in previous version of Windows there is now 'File History' which although off by default will 'shadow' copy your drive to an external drive. Theoretically meaning your main drive could go down and you could simply replace it, rather like a RAID system, although I've yet to see that in action.
File History is under Control Panel, System and Security. Here is quite a good blog post on the subject:

The more I use Windows 8 the more i like it. I still think they need a permanent icon link to Start and Charms menus from the desktop though.
