Windows: Edit the Registry in Recovery Mode

If you need to edit the registry
  1. Restart Windows with recovery options: Press Shift when selecting Restart.
  2. Select Troubleshoot from the options:
  3. Select Advanced from the Troubleshoot options:
  4. Select Command Prompt:
  5. Login using your account
  6. Once in command prompt find your system drive:
    bcdedit | find "osdevice"
  7. Run registry editor: regedit.exe
  8. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  9. Select File, Open Hive
  10. Select the Registry file from the location e.g. E:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE
  11. Give the key a name e.g. HKLMSoftware
  12. Navigate to your required key.
