- Install e.g. from Network Installer or ISO
You may choose to use a kickstarter file - Become super user:
sudo -i
System
- Setup system mail so it can contact you
- Use Tasksel to install SSH if you haven't already
sudo tasksel - Setup SSH Auth via keys
- Configure for automatic updates
and run it immediately - If you're on a virtual host, install the hosts's tools

Configure Salt Minion - Webserver: Debian as a WebServer may be useful
