I run a Windows as a virtual and so I'm very aware when it gets a bit carried away with CPU usage.
Whilst researching tools that could help me find out the cause of over use I discovered Autoruns for Windows. When run as an Admin it can control your system to a granular level, and you can hide Windows entries if you're not comfortable with the possibility of messing up your system.
You can install using Chocolatey with:
choco install autoruns
