Some peoples iPhones/iPads have seen so much work their home buttons have stopped working. One alternative is to turn on the accessibility virtual home button.

I believe an alternative on iOS5 is a three finger and thumb pinch although I don't have a device to test this on.

The Solution
- If you aren't in the home screen or settings then turn the device off and back on again to get to the home screen.
- Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, Assistive Touch and turn it on.
- Now you'll notice a white circle in the top left hand corner of the screen and if you toch this you'll be able to get to your Home Screen.
- Now run a backup and return your iPad to get it fixed!
